The May 22, 1994 'Awake' magazine says, 'In former times thousands of youths died for putting God first. They are still doing it, only today the drama is played out in hospitals and courtrooms, with blood transfusions the issue.' Please read all the articles: 'Youth Who Put God First.' May 22, 1994 Awake pp. 2-15 The front cover shows the smiling pictures of over 20 children who put Jehovah first. All faithful Jehovah's Witnesses including children, refuse blood transfusions. Some die. Some do not. Page 13 talks about the dangers of blood transfusions.
The Dec 1, 1998 'Watchtower' magazine says, 'Jehovah's Witnesses have been targets of false accusations - barefaced lies ... they have been wrongly labeled "child murderers" and "a suicide cult." ... The accusation that numerous children of Jehovah’s Witnesses die each year as a result of refusing blood transfusions is totally unfounded.'
It is unknown how many Jehovah Witness children (and adults) have died as a result of refusing blood transfusions. Based on the the May 22, 1994 Awake magazine it sounds like 'thousands' of children have died, but apparently this is not true according to the Dec 1, 1998 Watchtower.
It's hard for anyone to estimate how many Jehovah's Witnesses die directly because of their refusal to have blood transfusions. Some Jehovah's Witnesses are told they 'need' blood and somehow they miraculously pull through without it. People of other faiths have blood transfusions when 'needed' and sometimes they die anyway. It's also likely that some people had blood transfusions and died because the blood was contaminated. Perhaps if they had refused blood, they would have survived.
Jehovah's Witnesses believe they are contributing to society and the well being of others by refusing blood. In doing so, they say that new techniques are being developed to save lives without blood. If this is possible it would eliminate complications associated with blood transfusions. e.g. What if blood is not available or it's the wrong type? What if someone donates blood and doesn't know they have aids or another lethal virus?
Jehovah Witness adults and children who are old enough to understand their faith, believe that according to the Bible, blood transfusions are wrong.
If they try to save their life and disobey God, they will miss out on everlasting life in God's kingdom. However if they are faithful to God, and die, Jehovah will bless them with eternal life on a paradise earth.
Jehovah's Witnesses believe only 144,000 ( 144000 ) go to heaven. Everyone else will be resurrected to life on earth. However Jehovah's Witnesses must be obedient to God, by believing the organization's interpretation of the Bible, If they do this and die they will receive 'the prize' of everlasting life. After armageddon, they will be resurrected to live on earth. They will be given a new physical body, and live forever in human form.
