The publication Vindication says this, 'Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Mother's Day because setting aside a day to honor anyone but Jehovah would be a form of creature worship'. book 1, 1931, pp 158-60, written by Joseph Rutherford and published by Jehovah's Witnesses. (Bold type added.)
Here are some questions outsiders ask:
When we love someone and show affection with kind words, a hug, or a gift, are we 'worshipping' them? Is it wrong to appreciate people we love once a year or even every day?
People who celebrate Mother's Day say that expressing love for someone every day, week, month, or year is hardly the same thing as exalting a human to position above God. And it's certainly not a form of 'creature worship'.
The Bible tells us to honor our mother. Is doing that at least once a year wrong? What if we set aside a day every month to take mom out to dinner and remind her how much she means to us? Would that be a sin? Of course not! Put your faith in God. He is love. Honor your mother. Exodus 20:12; Deut 5:16; Matthew 15:4,6; Matthew 19:19; Mark 7:10; Mark 10:19; Luke 18:20; Ephesians 6:2;
