Religious Control

Imagine you want to attract someone. How would you do it? Would you put all our cards on the table on the first date? Or would you withhold information until someone is hooked and in love with you? When would you tell your deepest darkest secrets?

Jehovah's Witnesses can spend years studying Watchtower literature and be in love with their religion because they believe it's God's organization. When will the organization tell Jehovah's Witnesses the truth?

JW's believe they are free. Even though they are told to be submissive to those taking the lead, [1] it is believed this is what God requires of them.

They believe the organization belongs to God and it's 'His' Channel of Communication to the entire world.

Since they believe the words of the organization are virtually the same as the words of God, the rules of the organization must be followed. Members have no choice.

JW's believe they are exercising their conscience and obeying the Bible, NOT the organization. They do have to think and decide how they will live their life, but they must always base their final decisions upon what the organization tells them is the truth. Freedom is an illusion.

A good example of this is how they study 'the Bible'. In actual practice, they never study the Bible. They study Watchtower literature with references to the Bible. Their study guide, the Watchtower, gives readers questions to ask and then gives them the 'correct' answers. Any answers that contradict what the Watchtower says, is not allowed, - even if those answers present a valid perspective based on what the Bible says.

Jehovah's Witnesses are not free to publicly disagree with doctrines or pick and choose what rules they will keep. They only have two choices.

Even though they are free to leave, leaving the religion does not set them free. When they leave, JW's take their beliefs with them. In this way the organization continues to control them, - sometimes for decades after they leave. Some never find happiness and freedom. See Religious Traps

What's Wrong With The Jehovah's Witnesses?

Critics say that individuals who have dedicated their life to the Watchtower [2], are victims of religious control and they present convincing evidence to support this perspective.

Religious control and manipulation is not attractive in today's world. Religious control is based on fear, not love. Religious unity, being more righteous than others, and having correct doctrines is not required for God's blessing, - only love. John 13:34

The world is changing. Hatred of JW's who leave the organization (i.e. 'apostates') is becoming more and more repulsive. The world will no longer tolerate bigots and people who think they're better than everyone else. Unkindness is being exposed. In the past, religions took advantage of the darkness and no one could see what they were doing. Today that's all changed. There's no where to hide.

The Organization. Is It A Symbol For Salvation Or A ' False Religion'?

Witnesses of Jehovah have predicted that 'false religions' will be not survive armageddon, - a time when their God Jehovah will cleanse the earth of 'wickedness'. They believe that everyone must join their religion and get into the 'Ark' before it's too late, because only Jehovah's Witnesses have any scriptural hope of being saved. Watchtower Sept 1989

Even though religion has nothing to do with salvation, in some ways they are absolutely correct. Without the support of people, - unattractive, judgmental, and unkind organizations will eventually be destroyed. However they will die without any intervention on God's part. They will simply fade out of existence. See Why Are Jehovah's Witnesses Leaving Their Religion?

'False religions' that are unkind and don't practice God's love will either need to humble themselves, publicly repent, and make serious changes, or they will be figuratively 'destroyed at armageddon', - just like the Jehovah's Witnesses predict.

Young people who are being born today are being raised to be less judgmental. People who are loving are being accepted. People who are controlling and manipulative are being ignored. The people who once supported unloving doctrines will move on and make our world a better place.

Some will not change. They will go to their grave hating people who are not as righteous as they are. Hatred and bigotry can be allowed to die naturally as people become more educated, loving, and tolerant about the beliefs of others.

1. Jehovah's Witnesses are constantly told that God wants them obey the Governing Body because it's in the Bible. Matthew 24:45-51; The Watchtower says, 'The faithful and discreet slave today is represented by the Governing Body, ... The members of the Governing Body are experienced, spirit-anointed elders. ... Listening to the slave class means giving our full cooperation to its Governing Body.' Watchtower Magazine, Feb 15, 2009, Article: 'They “Keep Following the Lamb” ', par 17

2. Since 1985, Jehovah's Witnesses have been dedicating their life to Jehovah AND God's 'spirit directed organization', i.e. the Jehovah's Witnesses. (Jesus is not their only authority. Matthew 28:18) The second part of their baptismal vows says this, 'Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization?'
