How To Spot Religious Control?

Religious Control.

  • They attempt to isolate Witnesses from the outside world
  • They threaten Witnesses with disfellowshipping and/or public humiliation in order to command loyalty
  • Witnesses are afraid of judicial committees and the authority of the Governing Body

Witnesses are required to be separate from the world. If they disobey the organization they face the threat of judicial committees, disfellowshipping, disassociation, and shunning. The organization uses their authority as spiritual teachers to take away family and closest friends from those who leave.

When someone leaves or is forced out of the organization by disfellowshipping or disassociation, everyone is punished, - those who leave AND those who are loyal to the organization!

When a loved one leaves the organization, those inside the organization are emotionally damaged. They grieve the loss of their loved one. The person who leaves is emotionally wounded as well. They lose their mother, father, clidren, sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts, life long close friends, ... etc. They lose all loved ones inside the organization. (with rare exceptions). [1]

1. Disfellowshipping, disassociation, and leaving the organization destroys families and friendships. It is emotionally damaging and some would say it is emotionally abusive. Religious leaders should use their spiritual authority to teach God's love, - not to judge, control, and manipulate. Other's say shunning is a Theocratic Warfare strategy that protects the organization from harm at the expense of submissive Witnesses. If you want to understand the rules of disfellowshipping, disassociation, and shunning, read the publication for Elders only Shepherd the Flock of God.
