The wrath of Jehovah and God's wrath is a popular topic in Watchtower literature. How can we avoid God's wrath?
The clergy of Christendom teach that Christians are saved by their direct relationship with Jesus as symbolized by baptism. A Christian may 'belong' to a Christian religion, but they are saved by Jesus. He is their ONLY authority. Matthew 28:18,19
The Watchtower disagrees with the clergy of Christendom and teaches that in order to be saved, one must be faithful to all the laws of Jehovah as explained by the organization.
The Watchtower is so sure they are God's organization and the only path to salvation that they know the destiny of all those who disagree.
According to the Watchtower, the clergy of Christendom and all their followers are wicked. Because the world does not agree with the Watchtower, everyone is slated for everlasting destruction by God at armageddon with no hope of a resurrection. The only way to be saved is to join the Jehovah's Witnesses before it's too late. Watchtower Sept 1989
Thus the organization has unwittingly become a symbol for salvation just like the ark in Noah's day before the great flood.
While JW's believe their perspective is 'the truth' and everyone else is wicked because they disagree, they don't notice is a huge problem with their way of thinking.
In the JW faith it's wrong to celebrate Mother's Day and birthdays because it honors humans to excess. However it's not wrong for the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses to assume the authority of God as his channel of communication and 'His' organization. Unconditional loyalty and obedience is expected in return for everlasting life in God's kingdom.
The Watchtower warns it's readers that idolatry is a sin. It is wrong. Their God Jehovah is a jealous God. They say that 'Salvation is not to be ascribed to human institutions or their symbols.' Watchtower Sept 15, 2002, article 'Salvation Belongs to Jehovah'.
Apparently they are above their own rules. Jehovah's Witnesses cannot Idolize humans, governments, flags, and human organizations except for the Watchtower organization and it's Governing Body.
Rebellion against the organization is thought to be virtually the same as rebelling against God. Complete obedience is expected and required. Lack of reverence is not tolerated. Questioning the authority of Elders and the Governing body is a serious matter. See the Elder's manual, Shepherd the Flock of God, to see what can happen to Witnesses who step out of line.
1. The Watchtower says this. 'Christendom’s clergy are lawless in that they have misled millions by promoting teachings, holidays, and behavior contrary to the Bible. Like the religious leaders whom Jesus condemned, the modern-day worshippers who are part of “the son of destruction” face destruction with no hope of a resurrection. ... Today, billions of humans are involved in various forms of false religion that can be traced back to ancient Babylon. ... True Christians, who know this, have an obligation to warn members of Babylon the Great. One way they do so is by distributing Bibles and related literature published by “the faithful and discreet slave,” whom Jesus appointed to provide spiritual “food at the proper time.” (Matt. 24:45) ... Hopefully, they will see the need to “flee out of the midst of Babylon” before it is too late.—Rev. 18:4. ... Another disgusting practice common in Babylon the Great is the veneration of images and idols. God calls them “disgusting things” and “dungy idols.” Watchtower Magazine, June 15, 2008, Article: 'Things From Which We Must Flee' ( What does the parable of 'the faithful and discreet slave' mean? Matthew 24:45-51 )
1b. God's faithful and discreet slave. The Watchtower says, 'Today, the Governing Body represents the faithful and discreet slave class. There was a similar arrangement in the first century'. Watchtower June 15, 2009. Article: 'The Faithful Steward and Its Governing Body'.

1d. The organization claims to be God's channel of communication. The above Watchtower article makes it clear that the only way for 'billions' of people to avoid destruction at armageddon at the hands of their God Jehovah, is to abandon 'false religion' and accept all the teachings of the Watchtower as if their words are the words of God. Yet in the same article they say that idolatry is a 'disgusting practice' of Babylon the Great (i.e. the 'world empire of false religion'). The Watchtower says, 'Babylon the Great, the world empire of false religion, is doomed to destruction.' Watchtower March 15, 2006, Article: 'Keep Clear of False Worship!'
